Burger King to Institute Home Delivery
Posted by ChristianHave you ever had a craving for a Whopper but didn’t want to go through the trouble of going through a drive through? All the hassle of moving to your door, getting in your car and sitting while it transports you through the drive through process is just too much to take sometimes. Well, good news! Burger King is now testing a new program to deliver that flame broiled goodness right to your door!
Not unlike their compatriots in the pizza businesses, the fast-food giant is looking at home delivery as a method of helping them claim top spot over rival McDonalds in the coveted “I guess you can call this a burger” market. But what of the taste? Will the BK Value Meal really hold up throughout the lengthy delivery time window?
"There are some real food-quality issues here," says Ron Paul, president of research firm Technomic. "But there's no question that consumer expectation for having things delivered has risen." No, not that Ron Paul. I checked.
But that’s why Burger King is using space age futuristic technology to ensure that their food stays crisp and warm.
The stores try to deliver within 30 minutes of the time a phone or online order is received. Delivery customers must live within a 10-minute drive of the store. All soft-drink orders are in bottles. And breakfast items are not delivered. Delivery times are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The question becomes now – just how lazy are people? Will their unwillingness to drive themselves <10 minutes to a drive-thru outweigh their impatience? Are they willing to wait up to 30 and pay more for something that they could pick up themselves in less time?
There’s a $2 delivery fee and some stores may have anywhere from an $8-10 minimum order policy. For an extra $3 they will also come into your apartment, attach the feeding nozzle to your face and shovel the mashed up food down your gullet. Tip not included.
